How do I make a submission

How do I make a submission?

A formal submission must be sent via one of the following channels:

    • via the online form on this website
    • via email to [email protected]
    • via posted letter to ATT: Jacqui Hemsley, Lake Macquarie City Council, Box 1906, Hunter Region Mail Centre, NSW 2310.

What should I put in a submission?

Your submission can be as concise or as long as you wish.

Ideally, you will express your level of support for the draft Plan and provide detailed and specific feedback. The feedback will be reviewed by staff and later presented to Council to make an informed decision.

Should multiple submissions be received from a single resident regarding this project, the feedback will be reviewed by staff and counted as one submission when reporting back to the Councillors.

We recommend that all residents include feedback in a single submission.

    I've made a submission - what next?

Feedback may result in further changes being made to the draft strategy prior to a report being prepared for Council.

You will be notified again, prior to Council considering the matter, which will include a link to the Council report containing a summary of submissions and how feedback was considered. It is expected the draft strategy will be reported back to Council seeking adoption towards the end of 2022.

What is a Destination Management Plan?

A Destination Management Plan (DMP) is a strategic business plan for building and managing the visitor economy in a region. It is a shared statement of intent to manage a destination over a stated period of time, articulating the roles of different stakeholders, identifying clear strategies and actions, and outlining the apportionment of resources.

How are the Destination Management Plans set?

This ambitious plan aligns with the State Government’s visitor economy goals of tripling overnight expenditure by 2030 and assists in securing grant funding. The plan builds on the existing DMP and actions from the previous years.

The new vision is for a vibrant, contemporary cosmopolitan city attracting more than 2.5 million visitors a year. The targets strive for visitation between 2.5 and 3.9 Million.

What are the strategic priorities outlined in the Destination Management Plan 2022-2026?

The DMP covers seven key strategic priorities designed to drive and support the growth of the city’s visitor economy. These priorities are:

    • Strategic priority 1: The potential of key localities is realised.

    • Strategic priority 2: Outdoor, adventure, and nature-based attractions and activities are expanded and enhanced.

    • Strategic priority 3: A contemporary vibrant city.

    • Strategic priority 4: Events as a driver of visitation.

    • Strategic priority 5: The infrastructure, facilities & services to enable & support growth are in place.

    • Strategic priority 6: Industry development – Build skills and capacity.

    • Strategic priority 7: Grow and diversify the market base.
