A formal submission must be in writing and sent via one of the following channels:
What should I put in a submission?
Your submission can be as concise or as long as you wish.
Ideally, you will express your level of support for the draft strategy and provide detailed and specific feedback. The feedback will be reviewed by staff and later presented to Council to make an informed decision.
Should multiple submissions be received from a single resident regarding this project, the feedback will be reviewed by staff and counted as one submission when reporting back to the Councillors.
We recommend that all residents include all relevant feedback in a single submission.
I’ve made a submission - what happens next?
Your feedback may result in further changes being made to the draft strategy prior to a report being prepared for Councillors.
You will be notified again, prior to Council considering the matter, which will include a link to the Council report containing a summary of submissions and how feedback was considered.
At the Council meeting, the Councillors will review the formal submissions and concerns raised. They may either adopt the final proposed strategies or ask for further amendments based on community feedback. The date of the Council meeting is yet to be confirmed.
- Articulate a framework for achieving the vision articulated in the Community Strategic Plan (CSP)
- Meet its statutory responsibilities for managing local heritage and collections over the next four years.
- Supports alignment with the Lower Hunter Regional Strategy 2006-31, and contemporary heritage guidelines for local government required by the NSW Heritage Council.
- The strategy is drawn from its parent documents, the Lake Macquarie Community Strategic Plan 2017-2027 (CSP) and the Arts, Heritage and Cultural Plan 2017-2027 (AHC).
- The Heritage and Museum Strategy provides detailed actions and an implementation framework based on the key strategic directions of the CSP and AHC.
- Through the CSP, the Lake Macquarie community has strongly expressed its aspiration that moving towards 2027, local heritage will be valued, enhanced and celebrated.
- Internal consultation has taken place with key staff across Council to ensure that the proposed actions may be implemented over the next four years.
Where can I view the draft strategy and find more information?
The draft strategy is available to view on our Shape Lake Mac website and can be downloaded from the document library as a PDF file.
Hard copies are available for collection at Speers Point Library or the Council Administrative Centre in Speers Point.
