Consultation has concluded

Creating a safer community is a priority for Lake Macquarie City Council. Council will achieve this priority through adopting programs that have been shown to work, and delivering these in partnership with the community.

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey. The Crime Prevention Strategy is now available.

Throughout the consultative and community engagement phases undertaken to develop Council’s Community Strategic Plan 2013-2023, residents indicated the importance of crime prevention and community safety. As a result, the Community Strategic Plan clearly identifies a safe and healthy community as a priority for the community and as an area for action by Council (Section 4.2.2).

The Community Strategic Plan represents the partnership between Council and the people of Lake Macquarie to achieve the shared vision for the city. This plan outlines the main priorities of the community and sets out the long-term strategies developed to respond to these priorities.

Creating a safer community is a high priority for Lake Macquarie City Council and the community is now invited to comment on Council’s draft Crime Prevention Strategy.

Council’s Manager Community Planning, John Ferguson, said Council has prepared the draft Strategy – which includes a period of community and agency consultation – in line with the recommendations from Councillors earlier this month, to have a specific focus on residential burglary, stealing from motor vehicles, malicious damage and domestic violence assaults.

“Council continues to work with a range of organisations to reduce crime in Lake Macquarie City, as well as build and strengthen support networks that provide community education on family welfare and safety,” Mr Ferguson said.

“Throughout the consultative and community engagement phases undertaken to develop Council’s Community Strategic Plan 2013-2023, residents indicated the importance they place on crime prevention and community safety.

"The strategy, when completed, will be one response to that and we are encouraging people to provide any feedback on actions within the strategy."
