What is the aim of the Draft Better Buildings Strategy

    The primary aim of the Better Buildings Strategy is to incorporate sustainable building design and operating principles in all of Council's buildings.

    What is a sustainable building?

    A sustainable or green building incorporates design, construction and operational practices that significantly reduce or eliminate its negative impact on the environment and its occupants.

    What Council buildings will the Strategy apply?

    The Strategy will apply to the design of any new or renewal projects, construction and operation of:

    - community halls

    - childcare facilities

    - aged and disability services

    - libraries and cultural buildings

    - multi-purpose buildings

    - operational buildings and strategic investment assets

    - sporting and aquatic centres

    - public amenities

    - sporting club amenities



    What environmental sustainability performance criteria does the Strategy deal with?

    The Strategy provides minimum performance criteria for energy, water, indoor environment quality, waste, commissioning, materials and transport management, as well as identifying key actions for future years.
