We’re looking ahead with purpose to make tomorrow better for our City, our environment and each other. We believe in shaping our future and planning for the housing needs of people who call Lake Mac home, now and in the future.

Council adopted the Lake Macquarie Housing Strategy on 14 April 2020, which was later updated in April 2021.

We are now progressing with implementing the Strategy to ensure a sustainable supply of diverse housing options into the future.

The five key focus areas of the Strategy include:

  1. facilitating efficient and coordinated housing land supply and infrastructure
  2. increasing diversity and choice in housing
  3. facilitating infill opportunities for housing close to jobs and services
  4. increasing affordable rental housing and home ownership
  5. accommodating and guiding housing design and innovation and sustainability.

Council has now adopted discounts for social and affordable housing and has begun to implement planning changes including LEP and DCP changes to encourage infill development.
