Or multiple combinations of a host of other activities suited to large bodies of water - just look around the world to see what others have done. We are long overdue to get out of 'sleepy villages' mode and start being more GENUINELY proactive, before we get swamped with pressure to become Sydney's aged care dumping ground as all their urban sprawl gets older. Let others have that title, and let's see Lake Macquarie truly show off, and capitalise on, the strengths we have here. Vince Sunter asked about 3 years ago

    Hi Vince,

Thanks for your interest in this project and positive vision. The Lake Activation Strategy is a framework that will guide how Council, through both its own programs and initiatives and in partnership with our community, businesses and other government authorities, can best manage, enhance and promote the lake, its foreshore areas and supporting infrastructure.

The Strategy will, through comprehensive engagement with our community and other stakeholders, develop a vision and guiding principles for the recreational use and development of the lake. The strategy will assess current usage and identify future needs and opportunities. It will measure the adequacy of lake and foreshore infrastructure and facilities to meet those current and future needs, and will develop a 10-year Action Plan to map how we will deliver our agreed vision for the lake.

We encourage you to provide your comments on the interactive and also complete the survey.

    Regards,

    The project team

    Hi Bradley,

Thanks for your question and interest in this project. Works to upgrade the Swansea jetty are currently underway.  The draft Strategy will provide guidance on how and where we can best provide new infrastructure to support our existing facilities and to meet our future needs. We encourage you to place these comments on the interactive map and complete the survey.

    Hi Sel,

Thanks for your question and interest in this project. Making our City more walking and cycling friendly is one of Council’s top priorities. You might be interested in visiting our Draft Walking, Cycling and Better Streets strategy which is currently on exhibition to learn more about our principle bicycle network and the regional route from Belmont to Morisset which will provide a cycling route around much of the Lake.  We encourage you to add your comments on the interactive map and complete the project survey.

  • Share I don't have a specific place to improve but it always amazes me how few places there are where you can dine or have a drink or coffee with decent views of the lake (or ocean). I think it is a product of planning rules disallowing development of the foreshore for this sort of purpose which is a good and bad thing. The foreshore is protected but ends up mostly unused or taken advantage of. Being from the UK originally where due to history there are many wonderful pubs and restaurants and cafes on the water it is very obvious to me. I think planning rules should allow a balance between protection and taking advantage of the foreshore. Thanks for this opportunity to contribute. I hope it makes a difference. on Facebook Share I don't have a specific place to improve but it always amazes me how few places there are where you can dine or have a drink or coffee with decent views of the lake (or ocean). Thanks for your interest in this project. We encourage you to add your thoughts on the interactive map and also complete the survey.

Note it is beyond the scope of the strategy to propose amendments to Environmental Planning Instruments and other legislation. The strategy will, however, take into account opportunities and constraints related to how we promote and undertake activities on the Lake and its foreshore areas to ensure our agreed vision for the lake can be delivered.

    Hi Jaymac,

Thanks for your comment. Hi there,

Thanks for you comment. Many different authorities are responsible for pruning trees. When Council is responsible for pruning trees, we ensure the works are carried out by qualified and licenced professionals. You might also be interested in viewing the Urban Greening Strategy that Council is also currently seeking feedback on.

Haddon asked about 3 years ago

    Hi Haddon,

Thanks for your question. Clearing fallen trees that impact drainage lines can involve Council Officers from a number of different areas working together to resolve the matter, and may require an investigation to determine responsibility and the best course of action. Reporting the issue to us through our Customer Service Team will ensure the right people in Council are alerted to the issue. You can contact our Customer Service Team on (02) 4921 0333, or online through the ‘Report an Issue’ section of our website.
