Munibung Hill Management Plan

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback earlier this year. The Council report has been published seeking endorsement for the public exhibition of the draft Munibung Hill Management Plan.

Council is developing a Management Plan for Munibung Hill, which will provide a framework for the future use and management of the area.

The Management Plan will seek a balance between protecting, managing and restoring areas of high ecological, scientific, cultural and aesthetic values, while facilitating safe public access and recreation.

The framework will also take into account Munibung Hill’s unique natural character, cultural values, environmental hazards and feedback from the community on potential future uses.

Community consultation

We asked the community to share their ideas and aspirations for the future use and management of Munibung Hill.

The feedback will help us prepare the Munibung Hill Management Plan, which will be placed on Public Exhibition for further feedback later this year.

Feedback for this round of consultation closed 5pm 12 April, 2021.

Will any development actually take into acccount the fact that there is a huge amount of residential area around the base of the hill. As recent developments in the old quarry above Maran St, resulted in major water flow problems for existing houses in Hopkins St. The amount of water flow, obviously carried lots of sediment also contributing to siltation of the local creeks, waterways and ultimately, the Lake. Will the integrity of the Aboriginal and environmental heritage of the area be a priority?

    Thank you for your question,

Council is working with the land owners to develop a management plan which will capture the current situation at Munibung Hill. This includes documenting important constraints such as Aboriginal Heritage, Environmental, Ecological and private land ownership.  We also aim to have clear goals and objectives for the future based on community and key stakeholder input. This will provide an agreed approach to managing the land as well as community access to this important site.

    Kind regards, The Project Team

Is further development likely for Munibung Hill? This is a pristine and unique area and should be maintained as a nature reserve but with better access. Developers must salivate when they look at the view and the potential for new subdivisions.

There is currently no intention by Council to develop the site for housing. The Management Plan will seek a balance between protecting, managing and restoring areas of high ecological, scientific, cultural and aesthetic values, while facilitating safe public access and recreation.

When we went up there recently, we found the existing formal trails quite difficult for the general public to access at the moment. This plan will lay the foundation for future projects to provide the sort of access the community would need.

    Kind regards, The Project Team

Will this area be managed by a Nominated Community Operating Committee with a transparent & accountable Plan Of Management submitted by LMCC & governed by the NSW Crown Land Reserve Management Act 2018 ?

Cardiff Citiens Alliance asked 7 months ago

Thank you for your interest in the project.

The lands covered by this management plan are a mix of private and community lands and as such a statutory Plan of Management would not be applicable to a number of the land holdings. For this reason Council, is working with the land owners to develop a management plan which will capture the current situation at Munibung Hill.  This includes documenting important constraints such as Aboriginal Heritage, Environmental, Ecological and private land ownership.  We also aim to have clear goals and objectives for the future based on community and key stakeholder input. Where will the access to munibung be situated. Also what considerations have been given for parking at the access point.

Mick D asked 7 months ago

    Thanks for your question, Mick

The purpose of this round of consultation for the project is to get community feedback on where access points could/should be and other desires for the Hill.

Community feedback will be combined with the physical site constraints to identify primary and secondary trails, as well as future uses. We will then propose a draft Plan for community consideration later this year. If you haven't already, please complete our survey so we may capture your views in more detail. Here is the survey link.

    Kind regards, The Project Team.
