Why is Murrays Beach getting a new park?

    The North Wallarah Peninsula Development Contributions Plan identified several recreational facilities to be provided at Murrays Beach including a new park, playground and sports courts.

    Where will the park be located?

    A site has been identified for the park at 90 Lake Forest Drive, Murrays Beach.

    What is Council proposing for the Park?

    We have finalised the detailed design based on the Option 2 design that was presented to the community for feedback.

    Features:

    • double bat ball court (tennis hit wall)
    • half basketball court
    • playground featuring swings, slide, climbing structures, natural play elements and more
    • park featuring furniture, landscaping and footpaths
    • public toilet.

    The concept plan has had some minor changes through the detailed design process including slight changes to the location of play equipment and the inclusion of public toilets adjacent to the half court and shelter with picnic tables.

    What is the timeline for the project?

    Detailed design has been completed with construction commencing November/December 2022 and due for completion mid-2023.

    What are development contributions funds used for?

    Section 7.11 Development Contributions are levied to provide amenities and services for the growing area, including open space acquisition, local recreation facilities, city-wide recreational facilities, community facilities, roadworks and traffic management, conservation and management.

    How have the options for names been identified?

    A selection of options were identified through consultation with the members of the Awabakal Descendants Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation based on the flora and fauna in the area, and the intended future use/users of the park. The five options identified in the survey below have come from this list.
