Murrays Beach - Let's name your park

Council endorsed the name "Karakai Park" on 13 February 2023. You can view the Council report online.

The new park and playground will be constructed at Lake Forest Drive, Murrays Beach and is due to be completed in mid-2023.

The Geographical Namings Boards recommend that Aboriginal names are used when naming new parks. In acknowledgement of the traditional owners of this land, the Awabakal people, five Aboriginal names (with English translations) were presented to the community for feedback. They were:

  • Keelkeelba Park – The place of Grass Tree
  • Karakai Park – To be active
  • Marabun Park – Blossom, flowers
  • Wonnai Park – A child, children
  • Bittawung Park – Flying Squirrel (Squirrel Glider)
