The place strategy for Cardiff’s town centre is set to unlock the suburb’s potential and capitalise on its growing focus as a business, live-work and transport hub.

Manager Integrated Planning Wes Hain said the place strategy 'outlines more walking and cycling opportunities, new public spaces, greener streets, investment in smart technology, high quality buildings, simpler and more efficient parking and more business opportunities which take advantage of business grade high-speed fibre optic communications. Cardiff is also a very important hub in our North West Lake Macquarie Catalyst Area, which is a focus area for infrastructure investment,”

Two key proposals in the place strategy are a new public place on the main street near the Post Office, and Cardiff Main Walk a safe, direct and enjoyable walk connecting the railway station with the town centre. “Improvements outlined in the place strategy will serve to create a new Cardiff identity with increased walkability, reduced parking demand and increased pedestrian-based trade that supports community wellbeing and connection.”

The new transport management plan for Cardiff will make it easier and safer for people to get to, from and around Cardiff’s growing economic centre. It takes a holistic view of how people move to and from the station and the shops, while providing ways to manage parking in a fair and efficient way.
