Work is expected to begin in April on improvements to Reay Park in Dudley, focusing on replacing the existing dilapidated tennis court with a new multicourt and surrounding landscaping.

A mixed-use court was identified as the best use of the site following community consultation in 2020.

The new facility will feature half-court basketball at the Tumut Street end, and a half tennis court with rebound wall at the eastern end. This will cover roughly the same footprint as the existing tennis court. New landscaping at either end of the court and at the Ocean Street entrance to Reay Park will feature native species, with only one existing tree (a common weeping bottlebrush) to be removed to make way
    for the work.

The upgrade will also include demolition of the existing storage sheds and toilet block, construction of new amenities on the same toilet block footprint and a new concrete path linking the multicourt, playground, toilets and existing shade structure.

We will minimise noise and disruption to park access wherever possible throughout this project, which will be undertaken in stages. Work onsite will take place 7am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Work may also take place 7am-noon on Saturdays if/when needed.

The Reay Park multicourt upgrade is made possible thanks to the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Council will begin remediation works at Reay Park Dudley this week to remove asbestos that was discovered at the site. The works are expected to start on Monday 7 December and be completed prior to Christmas.

Council’s Asset Manager, Brendan Callander said works to upgrade the Park are expected to begin in the first half of 2021.

“We are planning to demolish the existing facilities located at the Park and replace them with modern equipment,” Mr Callander said.

“Earlier in 2020, we consulted with the community about what type of facilities they would like to see constructed at the site.

“We are reviewing this feedback and exploring options for the park. We will provide further details about the park upgrade in the coming months.”

The upgrade will be completed in two phases. In 2021-2022 the tennis courts will be replaced. Followed by the playground in 2022.
