If a suburb is called Lake Macquarie will our total area be still called Lake Macquarie? Thank you

    Happy Birthday,

Thank you for your interest in this project. That is correct, the suburb would reflect the City's name.

It is important to note that the Geographical Names Board determines the final outcome.

“Establish Lake Macquarie as a searchable destination online” It already is -why confuse people by driving traffic to one area of that city? What about the other suburbs around said lake which are part of the larger city.

    Hi there,

Thank you for your interest in this project. For some time, Council has recognised that there is a need for a suburb named 'Lake Macquarie'. The last attempt, in 2011, endeavoured to rename part of Speers Point as 'Lake Macquarie', with earlier attempts focussing on several areas including Glendale, Cardiff and Boolaroo.

The boundaries are open for consideration and that is why we have provided the option to identify your own boundary as option four. It is important to note that the Geographical Names Board determines the final outcome.

    Regards,

    Luke

All the maps for options 1, 2 and 3 split the Suburb of Boolaroo into two parts - the main section around Main Road, and the section adjoining the Cardiff industrial area (part of Munibung Rd, Concord and Edge Sts). Is this just an error or would there essentially become two disjointed sections of Boolaroo?

    Hi there,

Thank you for your interest in this project. All three options are seeking to minimise the impact on existing residents and businesses. The boundaries are open for consideration and that is why we have provided the option to identify your own boundary as option four. It is important to note that the Geographical Names Board determines the final outcome.

When will council listen to the community? This has been pushed multiple times by the council and soundly rejected.

Thank you for your interest in this project. The last attempt to name a suburb ‘Lake Macquarie’ was in 2011. We understand there will be different points of view within our community and that is why we have enabled the option to select you agree or no you do not agree with naming a suburb ‘Lake Macquarie’. The Geographical Names Board determines the final outcome.

    Luke

Thank you for your interest in this project and your feedback. The name Lake Macquarie has been chosen as it is believed it will:

    • reinforce our identity as a standalone locality

    • support tourism, business and key industries to differentiate their product

    • strengthen the sense of place for residents of Lake Macquarie City

    • increase access to and awareness of Lake Macquarie by pursuing opportunities for improved roadside signage

    • reduce confusion between Lake Macquarie and Port Macquarie

    • establish Lake Macquarie as a searchable destination online.

    Regards,

    Luke

'Lake Macquarie' is a regional name embedded with historical significance for both white Europeans and moreso indigenous people and connotes inclusiveness when a regional name. Name the new suburb after the indigenous people of the area or acknowledge something of the unique natural area. Be visionary and creative not conservative and short sighted?

I have just done your survey re the proposed Lake Macquarie suburb. I identified that I didn't like the suggestion and I wrote why. But your survey wouldn't let me complete the survey or make a choice of which area should be called LM ! Why?

stshute2 asked about 4 years ago

    Hi there,

Thank you for your interest in this project. We apologise that the survey didn't work for you. If you are wanting to select an alternative boundary, you are required to download the map, draw your alternative boundary and upload. You can also provide your reasoning for the alternative boundary in the text box at question 6.

    Regards,

    Luke
