Community engagement during Council’s Arts, Heritage and Culture Plan 2017-2027 and Lake Mac Libraries Strategy 2019-2024, highlighted there is a need to provide improved library facilities and diverse experiences. The community wants the opportunity for collaborative cultural projects in accessible library spaces, experiences that are meaningful in village communities, and access to facilities providing lifelong learning and place making that build community cohesion and understanding.

Draft concept designs for the refurbishment were developed from community consultation. The designs include making, meeting, exhibition and display spaces to enhance public programming and the local community’s access and use of the facility. The library collection will be refreshed to provide improved browsing and borrowing options, with the goal of being more responsive to community needs.

Council staff will also be hosting a drop-in session on Wednesday 12 February at the Wangi Wangi library from 1-5pm for the community to share their ideas.

A summary of feedback received will be provided to architects to inform the concept design. A Development Application will then be lodged for approval. Updates about the project will be available via the Lake Mac Libraries website and enewsletter.
