13 July 2011 : Unit Residents to Have Their Say on Bins

Under the new plans, Council staff will meet with multi-unit dwelling managers and townhouse residents to figure out how many and what type of green waste bins will work best for their situation. Options will include a range of bin sizes from 140 litres to 1,100 litres and include the standard 240 litre size bins. Service frequency will also be discussed.

"The consultation is expected to start in the next few months and Council is hopeful it will resolve challenges around the provision of
the new service," Mr Farrell said.

The new three-bin system will enable the city as a whole to divert up to 70% of household waste from Awaba landfill and turn it into a valuable compost product.

Details on the consultation plan can be found in the report on Provision of a Green Waste Collection Service for Multi Unit Dwellings.
