A vibrant, inclusive community space is proposed for the Windale multi-purpose facility in new concept plans released today by Lake Macquarie City Council.

The draft concepts released feature a range of spaces to connect and engage the Windale community including a community lounge room, gathering and activity spaces, study and quiet spaces, and green open spaces.

Council’s Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said the new facility will be a safe, flexible and inclusive space for people to connect, learn, create and collaborate.

“Together with the Windale community we want to create spaces where people can come together to create, unwind, socialise, experiment and flourish,” Ms Hemsley said.

The multi-purpose facility will cater for all generations allowing interactive and social activities to exist alongside spaces for learning, wellbeing and personal achievement. A balance of private and collaborative study and creative spaces will feature, as well as a range of exhibition and display opportunities to enhance the local community’s sense of identity.

“We want to hear from our community, users and service providers about how they would use these new spaces within the multi-purpose facility,” Ms Hemsley said.

“We developed the draft concepts following extensive community consultation and it’s important for us to continue this conversation so we can understand how these new spaces will be used now and into the future.”

The multi-purpose facility will replace the existing Windale Community Hall, Community Office and Library in Lake Street, Windale.

The community can view the draft concepts and join the discussion on how they would use the new spaces at shape.lakemac.com.au/2306-windale.

One of our highlights was the artistic makeover local artist Nicole Harrison and others gave to the Windale postcode, #2306. We love it!

We are now reviewing all community suggestions and ideas to prepare a draft design of the new facility, which we expect will be available for feedback at the end of 2018.

A big thank you to the Windale community for having us over the weekend. We received plenty of great ideas for the new multipurpose community centre and library, and even found some time to give the Windale postcode, #2306 an artistic makeover. We love it!
