Input from residents near the existing bus stop outside No.8 Ocean Street, Dudley, has prompted Council to investigate relocating the stop to the Reay Park street frontage.

Concerns have been raised about noise and the amount of time buses spend idling (laying over) at the stop. Newcastle Transport was consulted regarding this issue and has advised Council it has been addressed. Another issue raised is the increased number of homes near the current site, consequently increasing the amount of traffic and people in the area.

A prior investigation concluded there were no safety issues with the current site.

One regular public bus service currently uses the stop – Route 48. School buses also use the stop before and after school.

Relocating the bus stop would require establishment of a new bus zone on the eastern side of Ocean Street, in front of Reay Park, eliminating parking along the Reay Park street frontage.

Responsibility for bus stops is shared between Newcastle Transport provider Keolis Downer, Lake Macquarie City Council and Council’s Traffic Facilities and Road Safety Committee. The committee reviews and approves regulatory items such as signage, line marking and bus zones, Council provides bus stop infrastructure such as seats and shelters and Keolis Downer selects preferred bus stop locations.

The closest bus stop is near the corner of Ocean Street and Albury Street, about 200m north of Reay Park and 330m north of the existing bus stop.
