Making space for our four-legged friends

With close to 80,000 dogs registered in Lake Macquarie, we want to hear your feedback on Council’s draft Dogs in Open Space Policy.

Council’s Manager Community Planning, Wes Hain, said dogs are a valuable part of the family for many residents in Lake Macquarie, so it’s important that Council’s creates spaces that both dogs and people can enjoy.

“Council is committed to ensuring there's plenty of space for both people and our pets to safely play and be active,” Mr Hain said

“This draft Policy provides the broad strategic direction for the management of dogs in open spaces across the City, ensuring safety, consistency and the correct balancing of community needs.”

Feedback can be submitted until Monday 2 April at shape.lakemac.com.au/dogs-in-open-spaces.

Further consultation will take place later in 2018 during the development of the Dog Exercise Area Standards procedure for fenced and unfenced dog exercise areas and will include standards for quantities, location requirements, infrastructure embellishment and removal.
