Council adoptedthe Child and Family Strategy at its 25 August 2025 meeting.Thereport recommending adoption is available to view on Council's website.
The Child and Family Strategy is targeted towards the youngest residents of Lake Macquarie, their families and the people who work with these groups. It recognises that the first 2,000 days of a child’s life is considered the most important tie to positively influence children’s development, sense of identity, health, learning, safety, resilience and happiness.
It identifies actions Council plans to take to achieve the following three outcomes:
- Families are connected, empowered and supported to raise children in the early years
- Informed and connected communities
- For children to develop, grow and thrive in the early years.
It ensures the needs of children and families is reflected in Council’s decision-making, planning and service delivery to support our community to be a place where all children and families can thrive.
