New playground for Watagan Park Estate, Cooranbong

This consultation has now closed - thanks for sharing your thoughts on which playground design you prefer. The majority of people (76%) chose Option 1 which is the nature play inspired design. It is hoped that construction of the payground should start in late 2026 (pending approvals). The playground will be part of a larger neighbourhood park being developed near the town centre on Barnard Parade.

We’ve prepared two design options for a new playground in Watagan Park Estate, Cooranbong.

  • Option one - nature play inspired (2 - 12 years)
  • Option two - bouldering inspired (2 - 12 years)

The playground will be part of a larger neighbourhood park being developed near the town centre on Barnard Parade (see map above). The Watagan Park estate developer, Johnson Property Group, is looking to start construction on the neighbourhood park (including playground) in late 2026, pending approvals.

Background information about the neighbourhood park

The playground will be built as part of a larger neighbourhood park to service the Watagan Park Estate and broader Cooranbong community. Except for the playground design, the other facilities in the neighburhood park are not open for community feedback.

The neighbourhood park will include:

  • 1.3 hectares of total parkland with a flat grassed 'kick-about' area for free play recreation
  • shelter with dual barbecue
  • three shelters with accessible picnic tables
  • five park bench seating 
  • two accessible picnic tables 
  • drinking fountains and bike racks
  • amenities building
  • car park
  • playground with a combination of mulch and rubberised softball base
  • shared pathway network
  • various concrete pavement games
  • informal sandstone log seating
  • a custom playable public art item will be incorporated into the playground design comprising a swing inspired by the aviation history of the site.
