Glendale is a major emerging regional centre within the Lake Macquarie local government area that provides retail, commercial and sporting facilities to the Lower Hunter region.

Council has developed a draft Area Plan to:

  • guide the long-term expansion of this important regional centre to deliver more jobs, retail and entertainment opportunities;
  • plan for new pedestrian and bike links through Glendale;
  • establish an environmental corridor around Winding Creek;
  • support the development of the proposed Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange that will provide a railway station, new bus station, and park-and-ride facility; and
  • provide additional open space for local residents andvisitors to enjoy.

The draft Area Plan applies to land used for business purposes and does not apply to residential areas. The draft Area Plan outlines the proposed structure of the Glendale regional centre.

The draft Area Plan is a document that will be used to assess development applications submitted to Council.

    What is your plan in regards to noxious weeds (alligator weed) in Winding Creek?

    dobeegirl asked about 9 years ago

    Thanks for your question. The draft Glendale Regional Centre Area Plan is a long-term land use plan, and intends to deliver positive environmental outcomes for Winding Creek.

    Currently, the Winding Creek water course is located on land owned by the NSW government that is used for
    industrial purposes associated with the Cardiff railway workshops.

    The draft Glendale Regional Centre Area Plan proposes the establishment of an environmental reserve around the Winding Creek watercourse to preserve and enhance its environmental values. An environmental management plan would also be prepared to address matters such as noxious weeds. The establishment of the reserve and environmental management plan would be implemented by the landowner, should they redevelop the adjacent to Winding Creek.

    For more information on the management of noxious weeds by Council, please refer to: http://www.lakemac.com.au/natural-environment/weeds.

    Hi Nathan,

    Thanks for your question. The tender for Section 1 of the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange is currently out, and is open until the end of March. This would be reported to a Council meeting in May to award a tender and physical construction is due to commence in mid-2015.

    Thanks, Kate
