Council adopted the draft report: Flood Studies for Eight Residual Lake Macquarie Waterway Tributary Catchments on 25 October 2021. Thank you to everyone who gave feedback.

In 2020, Council engaged specialist consultant WMAwater to undertake a Flood Study Assessment for eight urbanised waterway tributary catchments.

This study completes Council’s flood study coverage of the major catchments within the City.

The tributary catchments included in the study are:

  1. Plains Gully Creek at Swansea and Caves Beach
  2. Sheppards Creek at Croudace Bay and Valentine
  3. Muraban Creek at Floraville and Belmont North
  4. Mills Gully Creek at Belmont and Valentine
  5. Fullers Creek and Freshwater Creek at Bonnells Bay
  6. Mannering Creek, Swampy Creek and Wyee Creek at Wyee
  7. Postmistress Creek at Sunshine and Morisset East
  8. Puntei Creek at Carey Bay.

This exhibition closed 28 July 2021.

Is your house within the study area boundary? Do you use any assets, parks or schools in the study area? If so please tell us about your flooding experiences. Even if you haven't had trouble with flooding, we are interested in the whole picture.

Right now, we recognise this tributary is a small catchment located at Caves Beach and draining into Black Ned’s Bay. Nuisance flooding has been recorded at the downstream end but projected sea level rise (exacerbated by localised flooding) may be an issue at Bowman Street where the Plains Gully Creek flows into Black Ned’s Bay. To get the right information to help develop the flood study and future flood risk management study and plan, we need your help.

Your flooding history will help inform our flood study and help protect your homes and local area. Complete a short survey or visit our interactive map and share your experiences and photos, before Monday 13 April.

Thank you for your contribution! Find out more or speak to the consultant about your experience, contact WMAwater on 02 9299 2855 or [email protected].

Right now, we recognise this tributary is a small catchment with a history of flooding downstream of Macquarie Drive at Valentine. We recorded flood levels in this area for the 1949, 2007 and 2015 flood events which were affected by flooding from the lake. To get the right information to help develop the flood study and future flood risk management study and plan, we need your help.

Right now, we recognise this tributary is in a high residential area with some growth potential. We have some previous flood history but need your help to get the right information about flooding events to develop the flood study and future flood risk management study and plan.
